Platform for young techies to discover
opportunities in the AI space
I started working at the company when it was in its early stages. The product existed but without a visual platform; there were a few basic screens for the interim, and I was required to start from scratch.
I began with user research, learning a lot about them – what motivates them, how they are accustomed to using opportunities search, what excites them, what pains them. I delved deep into the product, continuing with insights from the research. The research findings influenced UX decisions and the product's appearance as you can see.
The product targets young tech-savvy individuals who are accustomed to frequently seeking job opportunities in the development field. This means they are constantly busy searching for their next opportunity while working at the same time. With the technological advancements in AI, this search for opportunities in the field has significantly accelerated.
They are entering various platforms to search for opportunities, attempting to submit numerous applications, but they struggle to keep track of the process and they become very discouraged quickly.
How does it work?
Molerat is created to match AI startups to people who are ready to build. It works like a modern dating app: swipe and start speaking right away if it's a match.
I created a survey with essential questions for distribution among potential users. There were 63 participants in the survey, and here are the results.

I conducted user interviews to gain firsthand insights into their job search experiences,
helping me understand and prioritize the challenges they are facing.
This approach efficiently identified pain points.
I've been submitting many job applications for over a month to positions that seem like a great fit for me, and not a single company is getting back to me. I feel lost.

I've been in this frustrating situation of searching for an opportunity in AI development for three months now, all while working at a company and having almost no time to dedicate to job applications.

I conducted market research by analyzing our direct and indirect competitors, studying human resource systems, and searching for artificial intelligence opportunities to identify talent. This included data presentation and dashboard processes, learning candidate management, job posting options, various filtering displays, messaging options, profile creation, and relevant job views
I sought inspiration from adjacent realms of freelance mediation and remote work management. I gained valuable insights into how these platforms present candidates, observed their approaches, and considered incorporating similar behaviors whenever possible or necessary.
Since the application operates like the concept of swiping, similar to Tinder, I delved deep into Tinder, learning how it functions and implements matchmaking strategies, extracting insights that will also benefit the solution that our product, Molerat, will bring
The features are designed to provide groundbreaking solutions
to the pain points I previously presented
03
There is no clear indication after submitting an application
Users can always view and review their requests, receiving online guidance and email updates for each of their requests.
02
The process is long and cumbersome
We streamline the process by utilizing artificial intelligence to make the platform more efficient. When you swipe right on an opportunity, you will receive three questions about its core requirements. This is powered by the AI engine that defines unique questions for the listings. No more standard form filling, making the process more efficient for companies, which means a higher likelihood of being considered if you're a match.
01
Many requests go unanswered
We believe that unlimited choice is the epidemic of the digital age, leading to nothing but paralysis. To increase the chances of recognizing the right opportunity when you see it, we limit potential matches to five a day. Searching for opportunities will be experiential and not time-consuming by using swiping.
Throughout all design stages, I was required to streamline processes, creating a social and optimistic atmosphere, while also incorporating innovative and technological elements
Every component and element in the system is carefully selected based on user research insights and aligned with the company's strategies and objectives
A new user who registers for the application for the first time goes through several screens of an onboarding process to be able to get the most out of the application by functionally tailoring it to their needs. I chose the onboarding process at this stage instead of the option of a lengthy form to increase the user's motivation and not to overwhelm them right from their initial entry. It is crucial to attract the user to use the product and not to abandon it.
Several motivations that I added to enhance the user experience:
1. Use of simple and clear language for everyone, combined with humor suitable for a cool company.
2. Utilization of brand-specific illustrations to clarify complex concepts.
3. Display of a progress meter – this will help the user get an indication of their position in the process, enhancing trust in the product.
As in all other screens, the principle of presenting specific information relevant to the current action, Progressive Disclosure, also applies here.
The innovative style of the application is the right or left swiping, inspired by the Tinder app. Therefore, the design inspiration is also based on this, of course, with adjustments to the needs and goals of Molerat.
The action buttons also follow the same conventions as 'Tinder.' This decision was made based on research conducted on potential users who are also present on the Tinder application.
Clicking on the title or on the dedicated 'see more' button will open a side panel with additional information about the job,
In the first version I made 2 display options for this scenario, the post was extended and expanded on the entire page and the selection buttons were moved to the top,
And to decide which of them works better for the user,
I did a test with potential users with the 2 versions and the test results clearly showed a preference for this configuration, it was interesting that the reason was that they expected to continue with the original post visual throughout the process and suddenly when it disappeared, they felt helpless and did not understand Where does this lead, and using a side panel component leaves the post job in its original form and the user clearly sees that information has been added by a side panel that can be closed at any time
By clicking the "Share" button, a sharing message will appear on a darkened screen. This is to focus the user on this specific action and prompt them to complete it.
Enhancing the user experience by reducing sharing options. Based on research, additional sharing options are unnecessary here. The system identifies the email address, sending a direct update within the system if the user is registered. If not registered, an email with a link to view the post is sent.
Option 1:
Typing the recipient's email address, and then the "Send" button turns active from disabled. As long as the user has not entered an email, they cannot click, streamlining the user's understanding of what to do next. The system identifies the email; if the user is registered, a direct update is sent. If not, an email with a link to view the post is sent.
Option 2:
copying the link and sending it separately to the recipient later.
This screen consolidates all the messages open between companies and the user. Any company interested in further recruitment initiates contact with the user using this feature. Clicking on the company icon directs the user to the job post published by that company.
This feature comes after researching users, observing their activity. When we updated their interactions, it became evident that users had difficulty correlating a job post with the company name. This solution addresses the user pain point in this scenario.
Any company that wishes to continue the process, contacts the user directly by sending messages, all messages are concentrated in a message screen,
In case the user wants to cancel the matching (connection), he can cancel by going over the company's name in the message panel and clicking on the additional actions icon and clicking on the 'cancel matching' button
This action is performed precisely in such a process, because it is a convention of canceling/deleting a conversation on any other communication platform
After clicking on 'cancel matching',
a popup appears in the center of the screen with a message to confirm the cancellation, I also included a visual diagram in the message that expresses the meaning of confirming the message and conveys the message easily, the content of the message is also written in the most clear way for the user
The categories are divided in a logical order according to the user's needs as you can see here
In the Account Details category within the settings page, the user can change the password
Here too I have reduced the clicks so that the action will be quick and simple as you can see here
I thank Molerat for the opportunity to take part in the creation of the interfaces by comprehensively researching users and competitors and identifying the pain points of the users and thus finding the most ultimate solutions and designing accordingly.
Working closely with the development team provides me with valuable insights and a better understanding of their perspective.
